When I started out with a Nikon D5100 DSLR in April 2013, I jumped right into night photography. It taught me a lot about technicalities. In fact, I’d recommend it to anyone just starting out, because the absence of light allows you to appreciate how light works with the camera to make an image.
For this photo, I remember being camped partly behind a corrugated iron fence not far from the side of the road. I was operating the camera remotely and made quite a few photos. At one point, a group of drunk young guys approached down the street towards my location. This is one of the risks of being out at night I’m afraid !
I had to cut the imaging process short as I grabbed the tripod and scurried to hide behind the fence line. They passed without incident and I decided to call it a night. Luckily, some of the images turned out OK.
